Alas! Poor Yorick, Friday 25th October 2024

Hamlet meets Ridiculusmus. The gravediggers get a Stoppardian makeover in this expansion and exploration of 500 year old jokes in a largely silent physical comedy suitable for indoor or outdoor performance with or without local guests.

If the Two Ronnies were cast as the Gravediggers in Shakespeare’s Hamlet re-written by Samuel Beckett you might have something like Ridiculusmus’s “Alas! Poor Yorick”. Mixing the mundane with the magical; moments of banal idiocy are interspersed with ones of cinematic elegance to an underscore of groans, grunts and the odd Shakespearean aside. The legendary independent theatre double act of Jon Haynes and David Woods pull out every trick in their theatrical playbook to create a fresh take on Shakespeare’s much-loved clowns, re-enacting all the preceding acts of the original and meticulously staging the famous graveyard scene in all its 420 year-old glory. Flipping the Shakespearean original tragedy into an existential clown piece, Ridiculusmus cast aside chaos and mistaken murders to unearth a beautiful and oddly moving meditation on work, faith and existence, with the prevaricating protagonist offered in a refreshingly contemporary light.

Friday 20th September 2024: A celebration of Simon & Garfunkel

Thanks to generous Gift Aid donations, the total for Gallimores Field now stands at just over £46,000.

This was helped by a very enjoyable evening on 20th September when we welcomed a duo of professional musicians, Tim Chu & Ian Bailey, who performed songs in 'A celebration of Simon and Garfunkel'. This was a fantastic evening of live music and we hope to invite them back again next year.

Thank you to all who supported us and we look forward to seeing you at the next event!

Saturday 16th March 2024: Lichfield Garrick production of Farm Boy
This production by the Lichfield Garrick Touring Theatre of Michael Morpurgo's follow-up to War Horse was excellently supported by so many in the Village: almost standing room only.  It was a lyrical, moving but never heavy performance, and evoked the era of farming in the years of the First World War, and of today.  We would like to thank all the helpers, everyone who came, and especially Andy Knipe, Miss Salt, and the Richard Clarke School choir who sang so beautifully before the main performance.
